Lesson 55
Multiband Compression
A multiband compressor separates the frequency spectrum into individual bands, and applies an independent compressor for each band. This can be used as a surgical tool to bring down the volume of just the hi hat while there’s toms in the same track, or it can be used as a mastering tool to get the song as loud as possible on all frequencies.
Let’s take a look at the multiband compressor in logic, and it’s main settings.
Now let’s take a look at some examples of how to use it
Separate high drums from toms
Reduce pick sounds in acoustic guitar picking
Mastering with 4 bands
Mastering with 2 bands, so the kick doesn’t reduce the volume of the whole song.
